Men’s Soccer: Five Pirates named All-Orange Empire Conference

Orange Coast College freshman Peter Marquez, who led the Pirates in goals and assists, tops a list of five OCC players named All-Orange Empire Conference in men’s soccer.

Marquez, a Costa Mesa High product, was one of three OCC first-team selections, joining sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Brown and sophomore defender Ty O’Connor.

Sophomore midfielder Marco Pineda and freshman defender Taylor Kane represented OCC on the second team.

Marquez had seven goals and six assists to lead the Pirates to a 10-9-1 record, 9-5 in conference, which was good for third place. OCC, which won its final four games and five of its last six, did not make the Southern California Regional playoffs.

Brown had six shutouts, while O’Connor anchored the back line for the Pirates. O’Connor had one assist.

Kane had four goals and three assists and his 11 points (two points for a goal and one for an assist) ranked second on the team.

Pineda had one goal.

Toby Waterman of Irvine Valley was named Most Valuable Player and IVC’s Martin McGrogan was the Coach of the Year.
