Dan Steele (former CdM football player) funeral Friday at Our Lady Queen of Angels
Dan Steele, who grew up in Newport Beach and played football at Corona del Mar High, died on Nov. 12.
He was 22. He died in a tragic accident, according to Corona del Mar Today.
Steele also played tight end at Chapman University and as a senior was part of the Panthers’ breakthrough 2014 season that featured their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship.
Steele was remembered at Chapman during the Panthers’ 63-15 win over Whittier on Saturday, when there was a moment of silence before the game. The Chapman football team also ran its first offensive play with 10 players to honor Steele.
Steele was a producer for Chapman News and was known to have a love for journalism and sports. He graduated in June of 2015 at Chapman with a degree in broadcast journalism.
Recently, he had been working as a production assistant for the NFL Network in Culver City. The NFL Network also honored Steele with a special segment.
Steele is survived by his parents, Kevin and Trish Steele, and brother Elliott.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Corona del Mar. A potluck lunch reception will follow at the Phase 1 Clubhouse, 1854 Port Westbourne in Newport Beach. Attendees are asked to bring food to contribute to the meal.
A scholarship will be awarded in Dan Steele’s name at Chapman University.
