UC Irvine 77, Loyola Marymount 53
Senior forward Mike Best made nine of 13 field-goal attempts on his way to a career-high 22 points to lead the host Anteaters in the nonconfernce game Sunday.
Best added a game-high eight rebounds, while junior guard Luke Nelson had 12 poionts, five assists, four rebounds and four steals.
Junior Mamadou Ndiaye had seven points, six rebounds and four blocked shots for UCI (2-0).
UCI shot 52.9% from the field and limited the Lions (1-1) to just 27.4% shooting.
UCI visits Central Florida on Wednsday at 4 p.m.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Senior Jaamon Echols had 20 points and a team-best five rebounds to lead the Lions in the Las Vegas Classic on Saturday.
Freshman Brandon Brothers had 18 points and junior Zach Allmon added 16 for the winners (4-0).

Hawaii def. UC Irvine
Harlee Kekauoha had 11 kills for UCI, but No. 7-ranked Hawaii won the Big West Conference match, 26-24, 25-21, 25-14, Tuesday night at the Bren Events Center.
Victoria Dennis had eight kills and Lena Latour recorded six kills, while Luna Tsujimoto led all players with 15 digs and Shelley Anderson posted 30 assists for the Anteaters (12-14, 6-8 in conference).
Hawaii is 24-1, 14-0.

St. John’s 85, UC Irvine 63
Junior Illinois transfer Mckenzie Piper has 15 points to lead the host Anteaters in their regular-season opener on Sunday.
Piper made six of 12 field-goal attempts and was three for four for the foul line.
Senior guard Raelyn Cheung-Sutton had seven points and six assists for UCI, which plays the first of four straight road games Thursday against Southern Utah.

The host Lions clinched the program’s first Golden State Athletic Conference championship with a 25-18, 25-23, 25-15 triumph in the regular-season finale Saturday night.
Jessica Chase had 12 kills and Charlotte Heerlyn added 11 for the winners (22-5, 15-1 in conference).
Kelly Dalrymple had 22 assists and Rebecca Lowden had 14 digs, while Sarah McKinny had six kills and five block assists for the Lions.
Hope is 12-14, 8-8.
