Men’s Soccer: Lions No. 7 seed in NAIA Tournament
The Vanguard University men’s soccer team will play host to Great Falls of Montana in the opening round of the NAIA Tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Coach Randy Dodge’s Lions is the No. 7 seed in the 32-team tournament after falling in the final of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday at Biola.
The Lions (15-4) are making their second straight trip to the national tournament, their third overall. They reached the quarterfinals for the first time in program history last season.
Senior all-conference forward Jesus Fregoso leads the Lions in goals (11) and points (25 with two for a goal and one for an assist), while junior three-time All-GSAC forward Juan Arellano has nine goals and six assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Gomez, a two-time All-GSAC performer, has nine shutouts, while senior defender Josh Davis was also an all-conference honoree.
Vanguard has outscored opponents, 53-15.
Great Falls (13-5-1) lost in the championship game of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament.
