Vanguard men’s soccer edged by Biola

LA MIRADA — The host Eagles scored in the 88th minute of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament final on Saturday.
No. 8-ranked Biola, which defeated Vanguard, 1-0, in their regular-season meeting on Oct. 21 and was the conference regular-season champion, posted a 16-11 advantage in shots.
Leonardo Contreras buried a through ball in the box from Joey O’Keefe for the game’s only score.
Jose Castillo had four shots, while Jesus Fregoso had three for the No. 14-ranked Lions (15-4), the 2014 GSAC tourney champions who figure to earn an at-large berth into the NAIA Tournament.
Brandon Gomez had five saves for the Lions.
Biola is 14-4-1.
