CdM girls’ tennis in regional
The Corona del Mar High girls’ tennis team is the No. 5 seed for the CIF USTA Southern California Regional Championships, for which brackets were released Friday.
CdM will play host to No. 12-seeded Bakersfield Stockdale of the Central Section in the first round on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Friday at The Claremont Club, with the championship match Nov. 21, also at The Claremont Club.
CdM (20-2) advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 semifinals before losing to Harvard-Westlake, 11-7, on Wednesday. Peninsula, which beat Harvard-Westlake 10-8 on Friday to claim its third straight Division 1 title, is the top seed for the Southern California Regional tournament. Torrey Pines is seeded No. 2, with Harvard-Westlake at 3 and Palisades at 4.
This is the third straight year that the Sea Kings have participated in the 16-team Southern California Regional Championships. They lost in the semifinals to Peninsula last year, and could see the Panthers again this year if they can get past Stockdale and likely quarterfinal opponent Palisades.
