CdM duo advances to state tournament

MIRA LOMA — All season long, the Corona del Mar High standout duo of Amy Matsuoka and Alyaa Abdulghany set the goal of reaching the CIF State Girls’ Golf Championship. They reached that goal on Thursday, when they became the first girls to accomplish the feat in school history.

Matsuoka shot three-under-par 68 and finished second and Abdulghany shot 71 for sixth to qualifty for Tuesday’s state tournament at Poppy Hills Golf Course, Pebble Beach.

Matsuoka finished No. 1 among the SoCal individual qualifers who did not compete on a team at Thursday’s CIF Southern California Championship at Goose Creek in Mira Loma.

Mira Costa, led by Andrea Lee’s 64, finished as the top team.
