High School Roundup: Estancia boys’ water polo opens playoffs with win

ALHAMBRA — Jason Chesemore scored eight goals to lead the Eagles to the victory in the wild-card game of the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs on Tuesday.
Estancia (12-17), making its first playoff appearance in five years, advances to play at top-seeded Murrieta Valley (22-6) on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
The Eagles, who finished third in the Orange Coast League, led, 5-3, at the half, and pulled away with a 7-2 run in the third quarter that featured counterattack goals for Estancia.
Mark Keppel, the third-place team from the Almont League, ended its season at 5-14.
Victor Godfrey and Chris DeFrenza scored two goals each, while Brett Cooke and Cobi White added one goal each for the Eagles. Estancia goalie Eizik Leyva made six saves.

Sage Hill def. Paloma Valley
Junior outside hitter Jamie Dailey had 11 kills to help lead the No. 4-seeded Lightning to a 25-16, 25-18, 25-12 first-round win in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA playoffs on Tuesday.
Junior outside hitter Emily Lassiter added seven kills and freshman middle blocker Sydnee Francis contributed five kills.
Sage Hill (16-10) advances to Thursday’s second round and will face Quartz Hill. A coin flip will determine the site.
