Sage Hill edges Bassett
Junior quarterback Caden Sheetz threw a game-winning 37-yard touchdown to Miles McCord in the fourth quarter of Friday’s regular-season finale, helping the Sage Hill School football team end a seven-game losing streak with a 61-57 win over La Puente Bassett.
Sheetz, who completed 12 of 32 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns, also prevented Bassett (6-4) from tying the nonleague game with a field goal late. After the touchdown pass to McCord (four catches for 99 yards), Sheetz completed a two-point conversion pass to Jake Fisher, giving the Lightning a four-point lead.
Sheetz also rushed nine times for 101 yards and three touchdowns.
Sage Hill (2-8) saw McCord and David Dewey each return a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.
The 61 points are the most scored by Sage Hill since it beat Inglewood Animo Leadership, 63-26, on Oct. 27, 2006.
