WOMEN’S SOCCER

UC Irvine 2, Hawaii 1

The host Anteaters clinched a berth in the Big West Conference Tournament for the first time since 2013 in the conference match on Friday night.

Kelsey Texeira netted the game-winner, with assists by Lili Andino and Jessica Miclat, who scored the first goal for the Anteaters (13-5-1, 5-1-1 in conference).

Maddie Newsom made five saves for the winners.

Hawaii is 9-5-2, 2-4-1.

Vanguard 2, The Master’s 1

The host No. 9-ranked Lions rallied from a 1-0 deficit to clinch the Golden State Athletic Conference regular-season championship on Saturday.

Haley Bruce had an unassisted goal to knot the score in the 53rd minute and Hayley Gonzalez scored the game-winner on an assist from Erica Wadell in the 80th minute.

Haley Magana had five saves for the winners (14-3, 9-1 in conference), who posted a 21-10 shot advantage.

The Master’s is 8-6-4, 4-4-2.

Orange Coast 1, Irvine Valley 0

Lupe Rodriguez converted an assist from Aileen Ortiz in the fourth minute to propel the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.

OCC is 11-4-3, 8-3-2 in conference.

IVC is 6-8-4, 4-7-2.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

UC Irvine def. Long Beach State

LONG BEACH – The Anteaters rallied for a 19-25, 27-29, 25-20, 25-17, 15-12 upset of the Big West Conference-leading 49ers on Friday at the Walter Pyramid.

It was only the ninth win in 79 matches against Long Beach State for UCI, the first in Long Beach since 2003.

Senior outside hitter Victoria Dennis led the winners with 19 kills, while sophomore Harlee Kekauoha had 13 kills, three aces, nine digs and five blocks.

Senior setter Shelley Anderson had 50 assists, three solo blocks and five block assists to go with a season-best 16 digs, four kills and one ace.

Freshman Makayla Wolfe had a career-best 11 block assists and 12 total blocks for UCI.

Long Beach fell to 14-8, 8-1 in conference, while UCI upped its record to 10-13, 5-4.

Cal State Northridge def. UC Irvine

NORTHRIDGE – The visiting Anteaters fell, 20-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-15, 15-11, in the Big West Conference match on Saturday.

Harlee Kekauoha had 13 kills, 11 digs and five aces to lead UCI (10-14, 5-5 in conference).

CSUN is 7-15, 3-7.

SANTA ANA – The visiting Rustlers earned a 25-14, 25-6, 25-9 sweep in the Orange Empire Conference match Friday.

MEN’S SOCCER

UC Irvine 1, Cal State Fullerton 1 (2 OT)

Edgardo Molina converted assists from Ivan Canales and Thomas Janjigian in the 10th minute for the host Anteaters, but the Titans answered in the 25th minute and two overtimes produced no goals in the Big West Conference match Saturday.

UCI (5-13-1, 3-6-1 in conference) posted a 20-17 shot advantage over the Titans (8-8-3, 4-3-3).

Vanguard 1, The Master’s 0

Juan Arellano’s unassisted goal in the 57th minute was the difference for the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game on Saturday.

Vanguard improved to 11-4, 6-4 in conference, while the Mustangs are now 10-6-2, 5-4-1.

Vanguard finished third in the GSAC and will play host to No. 6-seeded Biola in the first round of the conference tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 76, Bethesda 44

Senior Claire Lamunu had 24 points and 21 rebounds to lead the host No. 6-ranked Lions in their nonconference season opener on Saturday.

Lamunu was eight for 19 from the field and eight for 10 from the foul line. She added two assists, two steals and two blocked shots in 22 minutes.

Senior Maya Kennedy had 11 points for the winners.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Concordia 75, Vanguard 63

Victor Evans had 13 points and six rebounds and Jamaal Lee had 11 points and five boards for the host Lions in the exhibition game Saturday.

Evans made five of nine field-goal attempts, while Lee, a transfer from Orange Coast College, was two for three from the field and seven for eight from the foul line.

Vanguard opens its season Thursday at home against Chapman at 7:30 p.m.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Big West Championships

KAHUKU, Hawaii – UC Irvine sophomore Isaiah Thompson finished sixth to lead the Anteaters to a fourth-place finish on Saturday at the Kahuku Golf Course.

Thompson covered the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 20.8 seconds to earn all-conference honors for the second straight year. He has been UCI’s top runner in all five meets this season.

Hector Garcia (16th in 25:42.8) and Nolan Del Valle (24th in 26:02.9) cracked the top 25 for UCI, which totaled 98 points, 15 behind third-place Cal State Fullerton.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo won (18), followed by UC Santa Barbara (53).

UCI competes at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento Nov. 11.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Big West Championships

KAHUKU, Hawaii – Freshman Anastasia Karnaze was 34th to post UC Irvine’s top finish as the Anteaters were seventh as a team on Saturday at the Kahuku Golf Course.

Karnaze ran the 6,000-meter course in 23 minutes, 27.5 seconds, one place ahead of UCI teammate Lisa Vasquez (23:28.1).

Karnaze has been the Anteaters’ top finisher in all four meets this season.

UCI totaled 197 points.

Victorious Cal Poly San Luis Obispo posted 27 points.

UCI competes Nov. 11 at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento.

The host Anteaters surrendered a 4-1 first-quarter lead in the Golden Coast Conference match on Friday.

Ryan Warde led UCI with four goals.

The ‘Eaters fell to 9-10, 1-2 in conference.
