High School Roundup: Sage’s Deckey, Hung win league doubles title

Academy League tournament
CERRITOS — Sage Hill sophomore Isabella Deckey and freshman Michelle Hung won the league doubles title Wednesday.
Deckey and Hung defeated Catherine Landass and Sally Guo of St. Margaret’s, 6-0, 6-1, to win the title. They also beat Sage Hill’s Lauren Fishman and Stephanie Beder, 6-1, 6-2, in the semifinals.
Deckey and Hung qualify for CIF Individuals.
Sage Hill’s Catherine Kiani finished third in the league in singles, with the Lightning’s Maya Byrd in fifth and Jaclyn Gerschultz in sixth.

Pacific Coast League tournament
IRVINE — The Corona del Mar High doubles teams of Siena Sharf and Jasie Dunk, as well as Camellia Edalat and Erica Chen, each advanced to the semifinals Wednesday at Beckman High.
Sharf and Dunk are the top-seeded doubles team, with Edalat and Chen seeded No. 2.
CdM’s Danielle Willson also advanced to the singles semifinals.
The tournament resumes with semifinal play Thursday at 2 p.m. at Beckman.

Sunset League tournament
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Newport Harbor’s top-seeded doubles team of Anna Burke and Kendall Cosenza advanced to the semifinals Wednesday at Huntington Beach High.
Cosenza and Burke beat a team from Marina, 8-2, then a team from Huntington Beach, 6-4, 6-3. They play the No. 5 seeds from Fountain Valley in the semifinals.
The Sailors’ No. 6-seeded team of Elle Zielinski and Olivia Zehnder also advanced to the doubles semifinals after beating a team from Los Al, 8-2, and upsetting the No. 3 seeds from Fountain Valley, 6-3, 5-7, 10-3. They play the No. 2 seeds from Los Alamitos in the semifinals.
Newport’s Jenn Kingsley, the No. 2 seed, advanced to the singles semifinals after beating a Fountain Valley player in the first round and a player from Marina, 6-0, 6-0, in the second round. She plays No. 3 seed Erica Chen of Los Alamitos in the semifinals.
The tournament continues Thursday at Huntington Beach High at 1 p.m.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Corona del Mar def. Northwood
IRVINE — Senior Jessie Harris tallied 26 digs, 22 assists and six kills, helping the Sea Kings improve to 9-0 in Pacific Coast League play with a 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 25-11 win on the road Wednesday.
CdM, which is 19-1 overall and ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1AA poll, opens the two-day Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions on Friday against Carlsbad La Costa Canyon at 12:45 p.m.
Sydney Alacano finished with 14 kills against Northwood, while Natalia Bruening added 13 kills.
Payton Carter recorded 21 digs and Joanne Won had 10 digs.
Ashley Humphreys totaled 30 assists and nine kills for CdM.
