NORTH HOLLYWOOD — Peyton Groves scored with an assist from Jackie Singer in sudden-victory overtime to propel the visiitng Sailors in the first round of the Tournament of Champions on Tuesday.
Emily Vaughan opened the scoring for Newport Harbor, with an assist from Cameron Dewan, but the Wolverines tied it after halftime to force the seven-one-seven extra session.
Sophomore Sarah Sheldon made 13 saves for the Tars.
GIRLS’ GOLF
Corona del Mar High junior Alyaa Abdulghany and senior Amy Matsuoka along with Newport Harbor senior Grace Ferrell advanced from the CIF Southern Section Southern Individual Regional Tournament, which took place at Dad Miller Golf Course in Anaheim on Monday.
Abdulghany and Matsuoka shot two-under-par 69, one shot behind champion Kailie Vongsaga, a freshman from Diamond Bar. Ferrell made things more dramatic, qualifying after an 11-player playoff.
Ferrell, the Sunset League champion and three-time league MVP, shot 76 and went into a playoff, vying for five spots. Ferrell birdied the par-five No. 10, the first playoff hole to make the cut.
The local trio is among 36 that advanced to the CIF Southern Section Individual Championship and Women’s Southern California Golf Assn. Qualifying Tournament at Western Hills Country Club in Chino Hills on Nov. 5.
Abdulghany, the Pacific Coast League champion, finished second at Dad Miller after a card-off against three others who shot 69.
Matsuoka finished third in a card-off.
Costa Mesa senior Paige LaBare finished tied for 117th with a 112.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Estancia 15, Savanna 7
Jason Chesemore, Kobi White and Chris DeFrenza each scored three goals for the Eagles in Tuesday’s nonleague game.
Joseph Carrillo made four goalie saves for Estancia (10-16), and Victor Godfrey had three.
The Eagles play at rival Costa Mesa on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

IRVINE — The Sea Kings finished off their perfect Pacific Coast League campaign on Monday at Irvine high.
The doubles teams of Brooke Kenerson and Izzy Dajee, Bella McKinney and Grace Jennings, as well as Ariana Kermani and Kayden Fogarty, all swept for CdM. Annalise Bui and Shaya Northrup both swept in singles, and Roxy Mackenzie won twice before being subbed out.
CdM, ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, finished the regular season 17-1, 10-0 in league.
The Sea Kings are at the Pacific Coast League tournament on Wednesday and Thursday at Beckman High.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Sailors capped their undefeated Sunset League season with the road win Monday at Edison High.
The doubles teams of Anna Burke and Kendall Cosenza, Elle Zielinski and Olivia Zehnder, as well as Taryn Anderson and Eva Newsom, all swept for Newport Harbor (17-1, 10-0 in league). Jenn Kingsley also swept at No. 1 singles.
Burke and Cosenza are the top doubles seeds for the Sunset League individual tournament, which begins Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Huntington Beach High. Anderson and Newsom (No. 4) and Zielinski and Zehnder (No. 6) are doubles seeds..
Kingsley is the No. 2 seed in singles for the Sailors, ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division 1.
