Breakers’ Gibbs is WTT Female MVP

Nicole Gibbs of the Orange County Breakers has earned 2016 World Team Tennis Female MVP honors, the league announced Thursday.

Gibbs played in every match for the Breakers (8-4), helping them reach the WTT finals against the San Diego Aviators on Aug. 26 in Forest Hills, N.Y. For winning the female MVP honor, the former Stanford standout earns a $7,500 bonus and a diamond from Forevermark.

Gibbs, who also helped the then-Austin Aces reach the WTT finals in 2015, finished second in women’s singles this season with a .602 winning percentage. She teamed with Breakers partner Alla Kudryavtseva for a .571 winning percentage in women’s doubles, which led the league.

“Being a part of WTT itself has been such a blessing for me, so to be female league MVP this season is an incredible honor,” Gibbs said in a release. “I couldn’t have come close to this accomplishment without Alla Kudryavtseva’s high level of play on the doubles court, coach Rick Leach’s guidance and advice, and teammates Scott Lipsky and Dennis Novikov’s support. I am looking forward to competing for the King Trophy on the 26th and will do everything possible to help the Orange County Breakers take the title.”

Ryan Harrison of the Aviators earned league male MVP honors. Fabrice Martin of the Philadelphia Freedoms is the Male Rookie of the Year, with Michaella Krajicek of the Springfield Lasers earning Female Rookie of the Year honors.
