Newport-Mesa trio makes OC All-Star Football Game

Corona del Mar High linebacker Karl Donovan and offensive lineman Mitch Dean, as well as Newport Harbor offensive lineman Max Spruill are the three Newport-Mesa Unified School District seniors who earned spots in the 57th edition of the Brea Lions Club Orange County North-South Prep All-Star Football Game at Orange Coast College on July 8.

The three local players will represent the South All-Stars.

Donovan and Dean helped CdM win its fourth Pacific Coast League title in a row.

The Sea Kings (9-3, 5-0 in league) advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Southwest Division playoffs for the second straight year, losing at Buena Park, 35-17.

Donovan, who made the All-Pacific Coast League first team, finished with 72 tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles.

Spruill earned first-team All-Sunset League honors for Newport Harbor.
