High School Roundup: Sage Hill’s Super throws perfect game

CERRITOS — Junior Brett Super threw a perfect game on Thursday, striking out four to lead the visiting Lightning to one of the Orange County Division championship games in the Newport Elks Tournament.
Super, a right-hander, also tossed a perfect game last year.
Sage Hill (6-1), ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division 6 poll, plays host to La Habra Whittier Christian in the final on Friday at 3 p.m.
Conner Bock went two for three with a triple for the Lightning, and Tobias Bush was two for three with a double.

Estancia 1, Sunny Hills 0 (10 innings)
Sophomore Brian Rodriguez had a walk-off hit in the bottom of the 10th inning on Thursday, lifting the host Eagles to one of the Orange County Division title games in the Newport Elks Tournament.
Rodriguez drove in Colin Gardner from third. Gardner got on with a double, one of his two hits, and moved to third on a balk.
Rodriguez started, throwing seven scoreless innings, while giving up five hits and striking out three.
Connor Brown earned the win after three innings in relief. He had four strikeouts.
Estancia (6-1) plays host to Buena Park in the final at 3 p.m. Buena Park advanced by edging Crean Lutheran, 6-5, in eight innings on Thursday.
Buena Park beat the visiting Eagles, 5-1, during pool-play action on Saturday.

Newport Harbor 11, Ocean View 2
Senior Jeremiah Sheldon threw five scoreless innings and struck out four, improving to 2-0 for the Sailors in the Foothill Division of the Newport Elks Tournament on Thursday.
Jake Genova went two for three with a double and a run batted in for Newport Harbor (4-2).
Sheldon was one for three with two RBIs, and Cameron Mahaffy was two for four with two RBIs.
Newport Harbor wraps up tournament action against La Habra on Friday at 3 p.m.

Corona del Mar 5, Ayala 4
Donato DiFerdinando delivered a two-out walk-off RBI single, driving in Evan Larsen in the bottom of the seventh inning of the Newport Elks Tournament game on Thursday.
Larsen was the winning pitcher. He gave up six hits, struck out seven and walked three in his complete-game effort.
Brenden Heuston added two hits for CdM (4-0).

PICO RIVERA — Freshman Omar Munoz produced the Mustangs’ lone hit in an Orange County Division game in the Newport Elks Tournament on Thursday.
Munoz also walked for Costa Mesa (2-4), which wraps up tournament play at home against La Puente Nogales on Friday at 3 p.m.

BOYS’ SWIMMING
Costa Mesa 86, Los Amigos 78
Augustus Cunningham won both distance freestyle events for the Mustangs in Thursday’s nonleague meet at Costa Mesa High.
Cunningham won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.90, and the 500 free in 5:13.83. Jacob Petersen was another double-winner, capturing the 50 free (24.13) and 100 free (53.81).
Caleb Fleener won the 100 backstroke in 1:08.06, and Nick Ly won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.62.
Costa Mesa returns to action March 23 when it hosts Calvary Chapel in the Orange Coast League opener.

Estancia 106, Rancho Alamitos 62
The Eagles improved to 2-0 by topping the Vaqueros in Thursday’s nonleague meet at Estancia High.
Double winners included Jason Chesemore, who won the 200-yard IM in 2:19.03 and the 100 freestyle in 51.89 seconds. Cobi White won the 100 fly in 1:02.60 and the 100 backstroke in 59.91, while Kent Lim won the 200 free in 2:15.04 and the 50 free in 24.60.
Alex Epperson, White, Lim and Chesemore won the 200 medley relay in 1:51.40, as well as the 400 free relay in 3:41.03.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Costa Mesa 110, Los Amigos 43
Alyssa LeCours won the 50-yard freestyle and 100 breaststroke for the Mustangs in Thursday’s nonleague dual meet.
LeCours touched in 30.66 seconds to win the 50 free, and 1:26.03 to win the 100 breast. Lauren Kiefer won the 200 free (2:20.20) and the 500 free (6:15.21) for Mesa.
Cialee Enslow won the 200 IM in 2:45.09, as well as the 100 free in 1:07.01. Karlee Kistler won the 100 fly in 1:19.35, and Kendra Ferguson captured the 100 back in 1:14.14.
Costa Mesa returns to action March 23 when it hosts Calvary Chapel in the Orange Coast League opener.

SANTA ANA — Kalena Shepherd had two hits, a walk and three runs scored for the Eagles in Thursday’s nonleague road game.
Maya Van Den Heever and Grecia Henriquez also scored three runs for Estancia (3-2), which plays Beckman on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Costa Mesa tournament.

LAGUNA NIGUEL — Noah Mayne and Richie Simons both shot 40 for the Sailors in their season opener at El Niguel Country Club on Thursday.
