WESTLAKE VILLAGE — Corona del Mar High junior Hailey Neumann scored the game-winner in the 70th minute Tuesday to lead the Sea Kings to a 1-0 win over No. 4-seeded Westlake and to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 girls’ soccer playoffs.

Junior Leah Givant began the scoring sequence with a corner kick toward the goal. Senior Ally Doherty headed it closer to the net where Neumann kicked the ball in from about five yards out, CdM Coach Bryan Middleton said.

The Sea Kings (11-7-7) will be making their seventh appearance in the CIF Southern Section quarterfinals in the 14 years Middleton has been coach, he said.

CdM will play at Palos Verdes on Thursday. Middleton said he wasn’t sure of the start time, either 3 p.m. or 5 p.m.

Palos Verdes beat Chaparral, 3-0, to advance to the quarterfinals.

CdM senior goalie Kat Hess made 10 saves.

“She played phenomenal in goal,” Middleton said.

Westlake junior Hannah Sharts, who has committed to UCLA, created several scoring chances because of her long throw-ins, as far away as from 40 yards, Middleton said.

Liz Lamie, a sophomore forward, stood out in the second half, providing great momentum, Middleton said.
