SAN JOSE — Newport Harbor High product Shaun Vetrovec tossed seven shutout innings to help the visiting Anteaters earn a four-game series split on Sunday.

Evan Cassolato was three for five with three runs batted in and three runs to lead UCI’s season-high 16-hit attack.

Parker Coss was three for four, while Keston Hiura was two for four with two RBIs for the winners (2-2).

Cole Kreuter and Mitchell Holland were both two for three with one RBI and two runs, while Adam Alcantara was two for four with one RBI and two runs.

Jonathan Munoz was one for five with two RBIs for UCI.

Vetrovec allowed five hits, and Ben Ritchey and Calvin Faucher both allowed one hit in one scoreless relief inning.

San Jose State is 2-2.

Orange Coast 5, Southwestern 4

CHULA VISTA – The visiting Pirates earned their fourth straight win in the nonconference game Tuesday.

OCC improved to 7-6.

Southwestern (3-7) lost its seventh consecutive game.

Cal Poly Pomona 6, Vanguard 3

POMONA – Paul Keating was two for four with one run batted in to pace the visiting Lions’ nine-hit attack in the nonconference game Monday.

Matt Harris was two for four with one run and one stolen base, while Brandon Sandoval was one for five with one RBI for the Lions (11-4).

The hosts improved to 7-3.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Vanguard 92, Bethesda 60

Senior Melissa Norman had 14 points and 16 rebounds to lead the host Lions in the nonconference game Monday.

Norman had three steals and was eight for 12 from the foul line, from which Vanguard made 23 of 37.

Senior Samantha Doucette had 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals for the No. 8-ranked Lions (20-5).

Maya Kennedy had 13 points and eight assists, while Gionni Blankenship chipped in 14 points for the Lions, who shot 55.2% from the field (32 for 58) and 62.5% from three-point range (five for eight).

Bethesda of California is 13-12.

SEAL BEACH — UC Irvine finished last in the 15-team field in the 54-hole event concluded Tuesday at Old Ranch Country Club.

Samantha Chan led the Anteaters, finishing 53rd.
