LA MIRADA — Senior Sean Isaac allowed one earned run in seven innings to fuel the visiting Lions in the nonconference game Friday.
Isaac improved to 2-0 to help No. 22-ranked Vanguard improve to 6-1.
Michael Ostrea earned his first save of the season as the last of three relievers who did not allow a run.
Brock Eissman was three for five with one run batted in, while Justin Vega had two hits and Paul Keating had two RBIs for the Lions, who complete the series with a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.

Cuesta 2, Orange Coast 0
SAN LUIS OBISPO — The visiting Pirates had 10 hits and left nine on base, but were blanked for the second straight day by the Cougars, who shut out OCC, 11-0, on three hits on Thursday.
It is the first time in OCC Coach John Altobelli’s 24 seasons that the Pirates have not scored in consecutive games.
JT Navarro and James McLellan were both two for four on Friday as six other Pirates had one hit apiece.
OCC starter Michael Giacone allowed five hits and no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. He was not involved in the decision.
Luis Raymond struck out seven to go the distance for Cuesta (3-1).
OCC (2-3), ranked No. 1 in Southern California, had hits by Eric Wagaman, Chris Prescott and Andrew Garcia to account for its offense on Thursday.
The series concludes Saturday at noon.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
UC Irvine def. USC
The host Anteaters halted a five-match losing streak with the 26-24, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation win on Friday.
Karl Apfelbach and Kyle Russell had 16 kills apiece to pace No. 11-ranked UCI (3-7, 2-6 in conference), which hit .457 as a team.
Apfelbach hit .500 and was in on five blocks, while Marty Ross has six block assists and one solo stuff.
Russell had three aces and Dante Chakravorti had 51 assists for the winners.
USC is 1-8, 1-6.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Irvine Valley 82, Orange Coast 68
IRVINE — Sophomore Jamaal Lee had 21 points, eight rebounds and three steals, but added eight turnovers for the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.
Kyle Lawson and Ibrahim Gerlach added 12 points apiece for OCC (9-14, 3-6 in conference).
IVC, which OCC defeated, 74-67, at home on Jan. 13, is 14-11, 2-7.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Irvine Valley 67, Orange Coast 53
IRVINE — Chyann Pendergrass had 11 points and four assists, while Sami Little added 10 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists for the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.
The loss dropped OCC (13-12, 4-5 in conference) into fifth place in the seven-team OEC. The Pirates have lost four straight.
IVC (19-6, 7-2), which avenged a 56-50 loss at OCC on Jan. 13, is tied for first with Cypress.
Sarah Nunes had nine points, five steals and five rebounds for OCC.

Doubleheader
Host Vanguard topped Antelope Valley, 7-0 and 13-6, in two nonconference games Friday.
Kaitlin Estes and Samantha Shaffer had two hits apiece in the Game 1 victory, in which Alexandra Olvera (four innings) and Kolbi Tonini combined for a three-hit shutout.
In the second game, Amber Huffman was three for three with two runs batted in and three runs for the Lions (2-2).
Estes and Kristyn Whitley both had a pair of hits and one RBI for the winners.
Antelope Valley is 0-4.

CHULA VISTA — Visiting Orange Coast was swept, 2-0 and 6-5, in nonconference action on Friday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
UNLV 6, UC Irvine 1
Cassity Branstine won at No. 5 singles to produce the only point for the host Anteaters in the nonconference match Friday.
Branstine defeated Cristina Morai, 4-6, 6-1, 5-4.
UCI’s No. 2 doubles team of Andrea Diva and Vivien Dvali posted a 6-2 win, but UCI (1-3) lost the doubles point.
UNLV is 4-0.
