Man arrested after truck chased by police crashes into parked cars in Costa Mesa
Police briefly chased a produce truck through Costa Mesa on Wednesday before it crashed into parked cars and the man driving it was arrested, according to authorities.
Newport Beach police got a call around 11 a.m. that a transient had stolen the small box truck while the driver was outside the vehicle making deliveries, Sgt. Mike James said.
James couldn’t immediately provide information on where the truck was stolen, but police began pursuing it on Newport Boulevard near the Costa Mesa border, he said.
The chase continued to 22nd Street and Orange Avenue in Costa Mesa, where the truck ran into multiple parked vehicles, according to police.
Afterward, officers arrested the man inside, who did not appear to be sober, James said.
The man’s identity and other details weren’t immediately available.
Photos from the scene show that the truck bore the name of Penjoyan Produce, a small grocer based in Costa Mesa.
Calls to the company were not immediately returned.
