Costa Mesa woman in critical condition after car crash

A Costa Mesa woman was in critical condition Monday after she ran a red light and was broadsided by a passing car, authorities said.

A Costa Mesa police officer witnessed the collision at 10:49p.m. at the intersection of Victoria Street and Canyon Drive, Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott said.

Gabriela Lopez Sanchez, 30, of Costa Mesa was driving north along Canyon, but in the southbound lane, when she entered the intersection in her a white Mercedes C250 on a red light and got broadsided by a gray Ford Fusion traveling eastbound along Victoria, Scott said.

Sanchez was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana for treatment of major injuries.

The driver of the Fusion, Harriet Tugman of Long Beach, 53, and her passenger, Brandi Danley of Buena Park, 50, were taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach after they reported feeling chest pains, Scott said. They were later released.

Police said they do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The incident is still under investigation, Scott said.
