Thousands lose power in Huntington Beach when electrical transformers malfunction
Thousands of Huntington Beach homes lost power Wednesday morning after underground electrical transformers malfunctioned, authorities said.
The outage was reported around 6:30 a.m. at Murdy Park, near Goldenwest Street, Huntington Beach police Lt. Bo Svendsbo said.
About 3,600 houses lost power and Goldenwest had to be closed between Heil and Warner avenues when traffic lights stopped working, Svendsbo said.
Southern California Edison workers arrived on scene shortly after the malfunctioning transformers were reported.
Power was restored to all but 383 houses by about 7:45 a.m. The remaining homes were estimated to receive power by Thursday morning, SCE spokeswoman Sally Jeun said.
The area that was closed on Goldenwest was reopened at about 7:45 a.m. also, Svendsbo said.
