Political Landscape: Corona del Mar residents group to host City Council forum Wednesday

The Corona del Mar Residents Assn. will host a Newport Beach City Council candidates forum Wednesday from 5:30 to 8p.m. at the OASIS Senior Center, 801 Narcissus Ave.

The event will be moderated by the association’s president, Laura Curran, and students from Corona del Mar High School.

It will also present information about the city’s ballot Measure MM, which if passed by voters Nov.8, would require a supermajority vote of the council on any proposal to increase taxes.

Surf City groups host council forums

Huntington Beach organizations are hosting several City Council candidates forums in advance of the Nov.8 general election.

The League of Women Voters has a forum at 6p.m. Thursday at the Central Library, 7111 Talbert Ave.

On Friday at 5:30p.m., the Huntington Harbor Republican Women Federated is hosting an event for the Republican council candidates at the Meadowlark Golf Club, 16782 Graham St. Admission is $5.

On Monday, the Huntington Beach Coordinating Council has an event at noon at the Murdy Park Community Center, 7000 Norma Drive.

On Tuesday, the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce has a forum from 2 to 4p.m. at the Waterfront Beach Resort, 21100 Pacific Coast Hwy.

On Oct. 5, the Huntington Beach Downtown Business Improvement District has an event at 4p.m. at the Shorebreak Hotel, 500 Pacific Coast Hwy.

Also on Oct.5, Huntington Beach Tomorrow is having a candidates forum at the Golden West College campus, Building 12, from 7 to 9p.m. Free parking is available in Lots E and F for the event.

Costa Mesa firefighters host campaign event

The Costa Mesa Firefighters Assn. is having an event Saturday to support Sandy Genis, John Stephens and Jay Humphrey in their bids for City Council.

The event is from 9a.m. to 3p.m. at TeWinkle Park, 970 Arlington Drive. A pancake breakfast is at 10a.m. and barbecue lunch will be at noon.

Costa Mesa woman hosts school district candidate event

Costa Mesa resident Martha O’Meara is hosting a Newport-Mesa Unified School District school board candidates forum Monday.

The event at Mesa Verde United Methodist Church, 1701 Baker St., starts with a meet and greet at 6:30p.m. A question-and-answer session then follows at 7p.m.

Savary to host event on Balboa Island

Newport Beach resident Sue Savary, who’s running against U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Costa Mesa) for the 48th Congressional District seat this November, is having a campaign event Oct.8.

She will discuss Russian foreign affairs and other matters from 4 to 6p.m. at a Balboa Island home at 1309 N. Bay Front, Newport Beach.
