Toot your horn in memory of longtime auto shop owner Paul Frech
A public event to honor the memory of Paul Frech, a Westside Costa Mesa mechanic who died over the summer, is scheduled for Saturday morning.
Dubbed “Paul’s Cars and Coffee,” the memorial starts at 10a.m. at the Costa Mesa Country Club, 1701 Golf Course Drive.
Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite photos of Frech and arrive in classic cars wearing car-themed shirts, hats, shoes, etc.
A brunch begins at 11a.m. There will also be a slideshow and video about Frech, who owned C&F Auto on Placentia Avenue for more than 40 years.
Frech died of lung complications July 27 in Phoenix. He was 73.
Frech, who lived in Costa Mesa, was known as a leader in the automotive community throughout the region.
In 1999, as a member of an ad-hoc group called the Coalition of Auto Repair and Service Professionals, he helped fight a city moratorium that would have prevented future auto shops from opening in the Westside.
After he was successful, he told the Daily Pilot: “I’d like to think they listened to us. Their moratorium won’t be a problem.”
In lieu of flowers, Frech’s family asks that donations be made in his name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
