A Huntington Beach man was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs for sale after they were found in his home, authorities said Wednesday.

Matthew Donald Simpson, 41, was taken into custody Oct. 7 by Newport Beach police who say they found about 850 grams of methamphetamine, 19 grams of marijuana and prescription medications in Simpson’s home in the 16700 block of Viewpoint Lane.

A credit card reader and mail belonging to other people — items commonly used in identity theft — were seized from the home, according to police.

Officers said they also found a digital scale, unused plastic bags, $3,839 and nine bicycles, which they believe were stolen.

Newport police said they believe one of the bicycles allegedly found in Simpson’s home was reported stolen from a Newport Beach garage in July.
