Man running on freeway dies after being hit by a car

A 19-year-old running across the freeway in Costa Mesa Friday night died after a car struck him, police said.
Authorities identified the man as Missael Espinoza of Costa Mesa.
Espinoza was in the southbound lanes of the 55 Freeway just north of 19th Street when a BMW 328i hit him about 10 p.m., police said.
Paramedics took Espinoza to a trauma center in Santa Ana to treat a skull fracture and brain trauma, according to police.
Espinoza died at the hospital from his injuries at about 5:40 a.m. Saturday, according to authorities.
The car that struck Espinoza was driven by a 16-year-old Costa Mesa resident, police said.
The driver cooperated with Costa Mesa police, who said the driver did not show signs of impairment. He was released at the scene, police said.
