Tell Caltrans what you think about widening the 55 Freeway

State officials are accepting comments about a proposal to widen a portion of the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway.

The California Department of Transportation is considering adding additional lanes along a roughly 4-mile stretch of the 55 from where it meets the San Diego (405) Freeway, near the edge of the Costa Mesa city limits, to where it connects with the 5 Freeway in Tustin.

Expansion plans include adding new general-purpose lanes and constructing a new carpool lane. Another option is doing nothing at all.

An open-house meeting about the proposals is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday from at the Boys Scouts of America Orange County Council building, 1211 E. Dyer Road, Santa Ana.

Written comments can be sent until 5 p.m. Jan. 8 to Charles Baker, Caltrans District 12 senior environmental planner, at 3347 Michelson Drive, Suite 100, Irvine, CA 92612-1692.

Emails can also be sent to [email protected].

The full environmental impact report is available online at Caltrans District 12’s website, and in paper form at the district’s office in Irvine.
