Driver escapes police after stolen car is stopped in Costa Mesa
Costa Mesa police are looking for the driver of a stolen car they pulled over about 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
Officers stopped the red four-door Toyota with paper plates in the cul-de-sac of Viola Place, Sgt. Dan Miles said.
As the car stopped, the driver opened his door and fled northbound, climbing a wall to escape, Miles said.
Despite setting up a perimeter, officers were unable to find him. Police described the driver as a Latino in his 30s wearing jeans and a gray sweatshirt.
Two women in the car did not run from police, Miles said. Police arrested the women after determining the car was stolen from a Compton resident, Miles said, but the women were released after questioning.
Miles said both women are in their late 20s and are from Costa Mesa.
