Brief car chase starts on Balboa Peninsula and ends in DUI arrest
Newport Beach police arrested a woman on suspicion of drunk driving Thursday night after she led officers on a short chase, according to authorities.
The pursuit began shortly before 11:30 p.m. when an officer saw a car driving without its headlights on near Newport Boulevard and 30th Street on the Balboa Peninsula, Sgt. John Thulin said.
The driver wouldn’t pull over for officers, so they pursued the vehicle about two miles to 15th Street and Irvine Avenue where the female driver eventually stopped, Thulin said.
After a sobriety test, officers arrested the woman on suspicion of driving under the influence and failure to yield to police, Thulin said.
Further details weren’t immediately available.
