City reminds cooks to recycle the oil

Officials with the Costa Mesa Sanitary District issued a statement this week reminding ratepayers to recycle their used cooking fats, oils and grease from their Thanksgiving meals.

If put into sinks and the sewer system, the materials can solidify and clog sewer pipes, potentially causing backups and overflows, officials said.

Fats, oils and grease can be put into plastic containers and dropped off for recycling at Orange Coast College’s facility, off Adams Avenue between Harbor Boulevard and Fairview Road, in Costa Mesa.
