Bomb scare shuts down 2 John Wayne Airport terminals, but it’s only a thermos
Two terminals at John Wayne Airport were shut down Sunday night when someone spotted a suspicious package that turned out to be an empty thermos, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The bomb squad responded about 10 p.m. to the baggage claim area in Terminal A after someone called about the item, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Lt. Jeff Hallock said.
“Terminals A and B as well as freeway exit to airport [were] closed in an abundance of caution,” Hallock said.
They stayed shut down for about two hours until deputies determined the package was just a thermos, shortly after midnight, Hallock said.
The scare did not affect many travelers because it began after the airport’s nightly curfew for flights, according to the sheriff’s department.
