Should Costa Mesa’s Fire Station No. 1, built in 1961, be replaced?
Costa Mesa city officials are hosting a community meeting Monday to get input about replacing Fire Station No. 1 on Royal Palm Drive.
The station, built in 1961, has foundation problems, structural damage and is not up to current building codes and standards, officials say.
They’re proposing to build a new, $7-million station that spans 11,675 square feet, which is slightly bigger than the roughly 9,000-square-foot one there now. It would have a variety of features, including 10 firefighter dorm rooms, administrative offices, a kitchen, dining room, day room, physical training room and mechanic shop area.
Construction could start in January 2017.
Monday’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the station, 2803 Royal Palm Drive.
