8 ex-inmates arrested in probation check in Costa Mesa
Costa Mesa police arrested eight people this week during a citywide check on former inmates to make sure they’re following the terms of their release from prison.
Local officers have periodically partnered with the Orange County probation department to conduct such sweeps since California’s prison realignment program put certain nonviolent inmates under the supervision of local authorities in 2011.
On Tuesday, officers checked on 15 convicts living in Costa Mesa, police said in a news release.
Police said four were arrested after authorities connected them to ongoing criminal investigations in Costa Mesa. Authorities did not provide information about the cases.
Four others were arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs or drug paraphernalia, police said.
Police said they plan to continue the sweeps.
