Skateboarder, 12, injured when he’s hit by a car in Irvine

A 12-year-old boy was hospitalized after a car struck him while he was skateboarding in an Irvine crosswalk Wednesday morning, according to police.

The boy was crossing Michelson Drive at its intersection with Jordan East at about 8 a.m. when a car hit him, Irvine police spokeswoman Farrah Emami said.

Officials took the boy to a hospital for treatment of cuts and scrapes, Emami said. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

The woman driving the vehicle stayed at the scene and was released after police interviewed her. Police said they do not suspect she was impaired.

Officers briefly shut down the intersection while they investigated the crash, Emami said.
