Fashion Island Christmas tree arrives Friday

Halloween revelers are still getting their costumes ready for Saturday, but one of Orange County’s biggest retail centers will give visitors a glimpse of Christmas on Friday.

Fashion Island’s 90-foot Christmas tree will finish its journey from Mount Shasta when it arrives at the Newport Beach mall early in the day.

It’s expected to take about three hours for a crew to hoist the white fir into place at the Neiman Marcus-Bloomingdale’s courtyard. Then, over the next few days, workers will add branches to fill in any sparse areas.

Lights and about 20,000 ornaments will be put on the tree to get it ready for the lighting ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 and 8, featuring Mickey Mouse and his friends.

The tree also will be lighted at 5 p.m. daily from Nov. 9 to Jan. 3.

The tree will be recycled after the holidays.

Fashion Island is at 401 Newport Center Drive. For more information, visit shopfashionisland.com.
