Firefighters evacuated a Newport Beach restaurant and doused a blaze on the roof Thursday night, authorities said.

Crews responded around 8:30 p.m. to the Bayside Restaurant at 900 Bayside Drive when someone saw flames atop the building, Newport Beach fire Capt. Ty Lunde said.

After getting everyone out of the restaurant, firefighters attacked the fire from inside and used a ladder to battle it from above.

Crews stopped the flames from spreading beyond the roof and a bathroom, according to authorities.

No diners were hurt, but one firefighter suffered a minor injury, Lunde said.

Officials believe the blaze began in an empty area above the bathroom before spreading to the roof, Lunde said.

Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze and the cost of the damage it caused.
