Costa Mesa fire training will produce smoke but no flames
Just because there’s smoke doesn’t always mean there’s fire.
Such will be the case Friday, when Costa Mesa Fire and Rescue conducts wildland fire training in the Canyon Park area.
During the training, the department will use cold smoke from canisters “to give a sense of realism to the training and assist firefighting personnel with locating the source of the simulated fire,” according to a city news release.
Though nearby residents might see the smoke, the canisters pose no safety or fire risk, according to the fire department.
The training, meant to help personnel prepare for the upcoming brushfire season, is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Friday and run until about 3:30 p.m.
Training also will be held on the following days:
• Wednesday: 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m.
• June 3: 8 a.m. to noon
• June 6: 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m.
• June 9: 8 a.m. to noon
• June 20: 8 a.m. to noon
