Teen arrested in Irvine graffiti cases
A 17-year-old boy from Irvine was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of tagging several Irvine buildings with graffiti and causing about $10,000 in damage, according to police.
The city experienced about 70 incidents where properties — including some that belong to the city of Irvine, Irvine Co. and Irvine Ranch Water District — were tagged with the boy’s moniker using spray paint and permanent markers, according to police.
Police said the moniker, which they believe is not gang-related, was seen along freeway easements, bike trails and in public parks.
The boy was identified during surveillance of the area he was known to frequent, said Lt. Michael Kent.
The boy, who police believe acted alone, faces felony vandalism charges. Authorities are not identifying him because he is a juvenile.
