Edith “Dee” Kroopf
Edith passed away in Corona del Mar on November 30,
2013. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 4th 1925, the sixth of nine children of Abe and Becky Newman.
As a young woman she ventured west to Los Angeles where she met and married Hank Kroopf of Beverly Hills. Together in 1947 the opened a tennis shop that grew into Star Sporting Goods, a large retail store which catered to the sports enthusiast as well as the film and television industries. Dee was a devoted mother who raised 4 sons stressing education while Hank kept them active with sports and working at the store. She was a passionate swimmer who also enjoyed golf and tennis. Hank and Dee were an adventurous couple who together traveled extensively throughout the world.
Dee was known for her warmth and generosity and often provided help and support for her family and friends.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Hank and son Russell. Her legacy lives on through her sons, Ken, Tom, David, daughters-in-law, Shelly and Cathy, grand children Lisa, Brian, Bradley, Jonathan and Rebecca, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, December 8th at 12:00, Pacific View Memorial Park.
