Pet of the Week: Sloan
A longtime shelter resident is highlighted at this year’s end, amid hope that her fine qualities will attract the right adopter.
Readers may recall a spring column featuring Sloan. She arrived last December as a pregnant stray and became a doting mother to eight puppies — all swiftly adopted. Anticipation was high that Sloan, who enjoys nothing more than kisses and belly rubs, would soon find her own home. However, it hasn’t happened.
This loving 5-year-old pit-bull mix is calm, quiet, healthy and spayed. Sadly, she now seems withdrawn — less eager for walks —and who could blame her? Several of Sloan’s longtime kennel mates are also pit mixes: Cleopatra has been a resident since last December, Rascal and Shuffle since March, Blue since May and Rogue since July.
While the breed doesn’t suit everyone, since strong dogs require attentive training, these six pits all show great promise. Adoption fees for so-called bully breeds are reduced 50%. For more information, call (714) 536-8480 or visit ochumanesociety.com.
