Spend summer at the club
Summer camps at the Boys & Girls Club start June 27, with activities for kids from science experiments to scavenger hunts.
The club’s Summer Bridge Program is another option, which allows kids to brush up on reading, writing and math skills during the months when they are on break and not academically challenged.
The club gym will be available for basketball, tennis and archery.
They can also take a stab at Laguna’s renowned art scene with classes that turn recycled materials into works of art.
Besides fun at the club, the camps also take field trips to the Laguna Beach High School pool, Diver’s Cove beach and local amusement parks.

El Morro teaches sportsmanship
A new program in El Morro Elementary School’s physical education department teaches kids the value of good sportsmanship.
Created by P.E. staff Eric LaPierre, Tami Burns and Sara Rawlins, P.E. classes get a gold star when they demonstrate good sportsmanship during their period. The class that gets four stars will be rewarded the following class with a special activity.
“Our physical education program does a fantastic job of instilling character in our students and making P.E. fun,” Principal Chris Duddy said in a statement. “By learning sportsmanship in physical education, the students carry this character trait over to the playground, which helps create the positive environment we enjoy here at El Morro.”
