High School Roundup: Middleton celebrates 150th win with CdM

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Corona del Mar 1, Woodbridge 0

Birkley Sigband scored in the 60th minute for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday at Jim Scott Stadium, giving Coach Bryan Middleton his 150th win with the program.

Chloe Rice provided the assist.

Goalie Kendall Mulvaney made two saves for CdM (8-5-4, 4-2-1 in league).

Middleton, in his 12th season with the Sea Kings, is 150-83-38. He is 73-29-13 in league.

CdM plays host to University at CdM Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

Estancia 2, Costa Mesa 0

Haley Flores and Emily Rodriguez scored to help the Eagles remain in a first-place tie with Laguna Beach Tuesday at Jim Scott Stadium.

Estancia (5-1-1 in league) plays host to Saddleback Thursday at 5 p.m.

Sage Hill 7, Whitney 0

Claire Novotny started the scoring for the Lightning in the 14th minute in the Academy League match Tuesday at Sage Hill.

Meg Crade, Paige Burke, Juliette Singarella, Rachael Jaffe, Marina Wild and Tiffany Taylor also scored for Sage Hill (11-5-2, 7-1-0). Allie Mowrey had two assists and Juliette Singarella and Isabelle Christian recorded one assist each. Goalkeeper Kekai Whitford made two saves.

Sage Hill plays host to Crean Lutheran (5-0-2) Saturday at 5 p.m. for first place in the Academy League. Crean defeated Sage Hill, 2-1, in the teams’ first matchup.

Edison 3, Newport Harbor 2

Jessi Prather and Natalie Ward scored for the Sailors in the Sunset League match Tuesday.

Rosalie Deliz provided the assist on Ward’s goal.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 43, Woodbridge 39

Natalia Bruening led the Sea Kings with 15 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Tuesday at CdM.

Krista Anderson added eight points and eight rebounds and Keaton Gaughan had seven points, including a key three-pointer with one minute left for CdM (17-6, 5-2 in league).

The Sea Kings play host to University Friday at 5:30 p.m. at CdM in game for first place in the PCL.

Edison 65, Newport Harbor 43

Bela Raimondi scored 14 points to lead the Sailors in the Sunset League game Tuesday.

Sammie Yeager scored 11 points and Kendra Munguia finished with 10 points for Newport Harbor.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 45, Whitney 36

CERRITOS – Junior forward Tyler Hague scored 16 points for the Lightning in the Academy League game Tuesday.

Junior guard Krishan Tarsadia added 15 points for Sage Hill (15-6, 7-2 in league), which plays host to Brethren Christian Thursday at 7 p.m.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Corona del Mar 19, Woodbridge 5

Maddie Musselman scored six goals to lead the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Tuesday.

Marina Coskinas and Ashley Quinn (three steals) scored three goals each and Jaleh Moaddeli had three steals. Averi Westerman and Grace Morgan added two assists for CdM.

Goalie Heidi Ritner made 10 saves for the Sea Kings.

WRESTLING

Los Alamitos 43, Newport Harbor 22

Senior Paul Champol (138 pounds) and junior Brett Beaudette (182) won by pin for the Sailors in the Sunset League match Tuesday at Newport Harbor.

Seniors Andrew Craft (145), Evan Perez (160) and James Pilz (170) also scored wins for Newport Harbor, which will be the host for league finals that start Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
