HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Eagles rallied from a 20-point third-quarter deficit in the opening pool-play game of the Ocean View Tournament on Tuesday at Ocean View High.

Sophomore Maya Van Der Heever led the Eagles (5-0) with 25 points, while senior Celia Duran added 20 and junior Slade Garnett had 15.

The Eagles continue pool play against California Academy of Math & Science at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Los Amigos High.

Costa Mesa 76, Bolsa Grande 51

GARDEN GROVE — Jacqueline Guerrero scored 25 points to lead the Mustangs to the nonleague win Tuesday.

Alexa Loredo added 19 points, Katherine Lawrence scored 13 points, Danielle Obong had 11 points and Sheena Reskey finished with eight points for Costa Mesa (5-1).

The Mustangs return to action on Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. when they play host to Newport-Mesa District foe Newport Harbor in a nonleague game.

Mission Viejo 31, Newport Harbor 29

Jennifer Lopez and Bela Raimondi scored nine points each for the Sailors in the Ocean View Tournament game Tuesday night.

Kendra Munguia added six points for Newport Harbor (3-4).

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Newport Harbor 13, Long Beach Wilson 7

Junior Ellie Reid had four goals and two assists for the Sailors in Tuesday’s nonleague game at home.

Junior Rachel Whitelegge added three goals and three assists for Newport Harbor (2-0), ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division 1. Christina O’Beck, Heidi Fults and Kate Pipkin each scored twice.

Cleo Harrington made three saves for the Sailors, and Carlee Kapana had nine saves and a steal. Alexis Angermund had five goals for Wilson, ranked No. 10 in Division 2.

Newport Harbor plays at Foothill, ranked No. 2 in Division 1, in a key nonleague game at 4 p.m. Friday.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

San Juan Hills 1, Sage Hill 0

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Goalkeeper Lauren Thunen made 10 saves for the Lightning in a nonleague match on Tuesday.

San Juan Hills’ Alexa Contreras had the lone goal.

Villa Park 3, Newport Harbor 0

The Sailors gave up three second-half goals in their Aliso Cup tournament opener Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.

Newport Harbor is 2-2.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Hawthorne 51, Costa Mesa 50

HAWTHORNE — Sean Comer had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Mustangs in Tuesday’s nonleague game.

Kyle Hefner added 13 points for the Mustangs (5-3), and Quinton Bell had seven points and seven rebounds.

Costa Mesa plays at Rancho Alamitos at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, a pool-play game of the Garden Grove tournament.

Corona del Mar 68, West Torrance 48

Senior guard Robby Bracho finished with 17 points and three three-pointers in the Sea Kings’ first pool-play game at the second annual CdM Beach Bash on Tuesday.

Sam Kobrine had 12 points on four threes for CdM (2-0) and Kevin Manchester added nine points.

The Sea Kings will play Westminster or Fremont American on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Coach Ryan Schachter said the game will not be a tournament game for CdM since one team dropped out of the 12-team event.

The Sea Kings return to tournament play on Friday.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Newport Harbor 0, Servite 0

ANAHEIM — Sophomore goalkeeper Victor Negrete made four saves to preserve the shutout for the visiting Sailors in the nonleague game on Tuesday.

It’s the second scoreless tie in as many games for the Tars, who played Back Bay rival Corona del Mar to a clean sheet deadlock on Friday.

Coach Juan Mares singled out senior center backs Chas Beek and David Ayala for their strong play against the highly regarded Friars (1-0-1).

Newport Harbor plays host to Estancia on Friday at 5 p.m.
