High School Roundup: Quartet sets meet record

MISSION VIEJO — Corona del Mar High senior swimmers Stephania Haralabidis, Ioanna Haralabidis, Brynne Wong and Ally McCormick set a meet record in the 400-yard freestyle relay at the Capistrano Valley Relays preliminaries Thursday.

The CdM quartet touched first in 3:35.60, an automatic All-American time.

The boys’ preliminaries are Friday at Capo Valley, with both boys’ and girls’ finals on Saturday.

Newport Harbor 16, Laguna Beach 2

LAGUNA BEACH — Senior Christian Lee swept at No. 2 singles for the Sailors in Thursday’s nonleague match on the road.

David Schaefer and Phillip Vu swept at No. 2 doubles for the Sailors (5-3). Reese Stalder and Gavin Leonard each won a pair of singles sets.

Newport Harbor plays host to Costa Mesa on Friday.

Estancia 13, Westminster 5

COSTA MESA — Senior Erik Cerros and sophomore Sterling Gates swept at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles in Thursday’s nonleague match at Estancia High.

Cerros and Gates won their sets, 6-2, 6-0, 6-2, helping Estancia improve to 7-1.

The Eagles play host to rival Costa Mesa in their Orange Coast League opener on Tuesday.

Corona del Mar 195, Aliso Niguel 210

LAGUNA NIGUEL — Walter Frome and Chase Wheatley both shot one-over-par 37 to share medalist honors and help the Sea Kings win their 44th straight regular-season match Thursday at El Niguel Country Club.

Drew Hanson (39), Brandon Huang (40), Karick Brown (42) and John Hong (42) also scored for CdM (6-0).

Fountain Valley 203, Estancia 204

COSTA MESA — Jake Stone, Courtland Lee and Aaron Wood each shot 39 for the Eagles in Thursday’s nonleague match at Mesa Verde Country Club.

Jake Beth shot a 43 and Cody Nelson carded a 44 for Estancia (1-3), which plays Long Beach Wilson on Monday at Skylinks.
