Doubleheader
IRVINE — The No. 21-ranked Anteaters swept the nonconference doubleheader, winning 3-1 and 8-7, on Saturday.
Junior pitcher Matt Whitehouse (2-0) went the distance in the first game. He allowed one run, three hits, one walk, and struck out five.
In the second game, UCI (9-2) scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to come from behind and win.
Dominique Taylor drove in the game-winning run with a hit over the left fielder’s head. Taylor went two for four with two runs batted in.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Pacific 65, UC Irvine 53
IRVINE — Sophomore forward Camille Buckley finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for the Anteaters to topple the top team in the Big West Conference on Saturday.
UCI suffered its second straight conference setback and dropped to 5-11 in Big West play. The Anteaters are trying to finish in the top eight in the conference to qualify for the Big West Tournament.
UCI shares the eighth spot with Cal State Fullerton.
Anete Klintsone had 10 points and three assists for the Anteaters, who are 9-19 overall.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
All-UC Meet
IRVINE — James Sewell led UC Irvine in the outdoor season-opening All-UC Meet at Anteater Stadium Saturday.
Sewell won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.45 and he placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.83. He also ran a leg on UCI’s first-place 4x400 relay (3:16.79) that also included Matt Tyson, Duane Solomon and Julian Lujan.
Teammate Cameron Vaca was second in the 400 hurdles (55.02) and third in the 110 hurdles (15.28). Kyle Hubbard was third in the 400 hurdles (56.44) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.28).
Riley Martin was second in the 800 meters (1:54.93) and third in the 1500 meters (3:56.40) as Sam Hyams finished second in the 1500 in 3:55.67.
Mike Kennedy placed second in the long jump at 23-3½ and he was third in the 100 meters in 10.82.
Mason Miller finished second in the shot put with a mark of 53-3¾.
Nick Jennings was fourth in the pole vault at 15-5 and Trevor Lawrence placed fourth in the hammer throw at 156-3.
The ‘Eaters finished third in the team competition with 123 points as UC Santa Barbara was first with 228 and UC San Diego second with 180.
UCI competes in the Ben Brown Invitational Saturday at Cal State Fullerton.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
All-UC Meet
IRVINE — UC Irvine’s Lauren Hackney won the 400 meters in the All-UC Meet Saturday at Anteater Stadium to open the 2013 outdoor season.
Hackney had a time of 56.81 and teammate Marie Brashears was third in 59.39.
Sakia Sailinuu was second in the 1500 meters in 4:39.36 with Maggie McDuffee placing third in 4:41.33.
Kaulyn Lee-McNeill (62.63) and KayC Wharton (63.95) finished 2-3 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Megan Benson placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.65.
UCI finished second in both relays as the 4x100 of Wharton, Charity Lyons, Melanie Speech and Benson had a time of 47.88, while the 4x400 squad of Lee-McNeill, Wharton, Sakia Sailinuu and Hackney recorded a time of 3:49.75.
Itos Aikhionbare finished second in the shot put with a mark of 45-11¾ and she was fourth in the hammer throw at 147-11.
Lacey Surak was second in the javelin throw at 133-6 with Chelsea Pham placing fourth at 118-8. Surak was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 40-11¾ and Kate Johnson was fourth in the pole vault at 10-11¾.
UCI finished third with 137 points as UC Santa Barbara (220) and UC San Diego (163) finished first and second.
The Anteaters travel to Cal State Fullerton for the Ben Brown Invitational Saturday.
