Ex-CdM baseball star Lemmerman traded

Jake Lemmerman, a Corona del Mar High product who has spent the last three baseball seasons in the minor leagues as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for utility man Skip Schumaker on Wednesday.

Lemmerman, 25, a two-time Newport-Mesa Dream Team Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007, was a fifth-round draft pick out of Duke in 2010. He hit .233 in 373 at-bats at Double-A Chattanooga in 2012, with seven home runs, 46 runs batted in and eight stolen bases.

Lemmerman hit a combined .283 at Chattanooga and Single-A Rancho Cucamonga in 2011 with 10 homers, 65 RBIs and 10 steals. At Ogden of the rookie Pioneer League in 2010, Lemmerman hit .363 in 259 at-bats with 12 homers, 47 RBIs and five steals.

Lemmerman represented Israel in qualifying for the World Baseball Classic in September.

At CdM, he was a four-year starter who hit .425 as a senior with 10 homers and 31 RBIs. He amassed 16 homers, 88 RBIs and a .388 average in his prep career, during which he helped CdM claim a CIF Southern Section Division IV title in 2004.

Schumaker, 32, out of Aliso Niguel High, spent all or part of eight major league seasons with the Cardinals. He hit .276 in 107 games in 2012 and is a career .288 hitter.
