High School Roundup: CdM XC boys win PCL cluster meet

BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Pacific Coast League Cluster meet

IRVINE — Teddy Parks, Reid Meckler and Spencer Keith achieved personal records and helped Corona del Mar finish first with 37 points at Mason Park on Thursday.

Parks finished third in 15 minutes, 35 seconds, a four-second improvement. Meckler was fourth in 15:35, lowering 14 seconds of his previous best, and Keith came in fifth in 15:37, a seven-second personal record.

Tanner Love (16:08) came in 12th out of 38 runners and Ethan Hold (16:09) was 13th.

Woodbridge (44 points) came in second, followed by Northwood (79), Beckman (79), University (131) and Irvine (147).

GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Pacific Coast League Cluster meet

IRVINE — Kirsten Hansen finished eighth to help Corona del Mar take third out of six teams with 74 points Thursday at Mason Park.

Hansen finished in 18 minutes, 21 seconds, lowering 31 seconds from her previous best.

Lilly Schmidt (14th, 18:40, a 19-second personal record), Darcie Marshall (15th, 18:42, a 31-second PR), Elin Wolker (18th, 18:56, a 17-second PR) and Bella Solomon (19th, 19:00, a 36-second PR) also competed for CdM in the race that featured 42 runners.

Woodbridge won with 39 points. Northwood was second with 41. University came in fourth with 108, followed by Irvine (117) and Beckman (132).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Newport Harbor def. Marina

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Torey Thompson had 53 assists and six kills to help lead the Sailors to a 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 25-5 Sunset League win Thursday night.

Carolyn Bockrath had 11 kills, Sierra Brown had 10 kills, Mary Lyon had nine kills and Hunter Jennings had eight digs for Newport Harbor (16-8, 5-4 in league).

The Sailors play against La Costa Canyon Friday at 11 a.m. to open the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions.

Corona del Mar def. Woodbridge

IRVINE — Hayley Hodson had 20 kills to help lead the Sea Kings to a 25-23, 25-17, 25-21 Pacific Coast League win Thursday.

Kelsey Humphreys had 34 assists and Grace Kennedy had seven kills, while Brooke Dunning and Alexis Cage had four kills each for CdM (22-5, 9-0 in league).

Estancia def. Calvary Chapel

SANTA ANA — Emma Griffith had 17 kills to help lead Estancia to a 27-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-18 Orange Coast League win Thursday night.

Abby Griffith had 12 kills, Chloe Davis had 10 kills and Kai Huber had 10 digs for Estancia (7-3 in league), which is second place in league.
