UC Irvine def. Cal State Northridge
NORTHRIDGE — Marisa Bubica had 16 kills to go along with eight digs to help the lead the Anteaters to a 25-17, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19 Big West Conference win Saturday at the Matadome.
Aly Squires knocked down 13 kills, while Shannon Fleming was solid all the way around the court with 12 kills, eight digs, a team-high six block assists and two aces for UCI (8-9, 3-1 in conference).
Sydney Wright added 10 kills and Marissa Alvarez put up a double-double with 43 assists and 11 digs for the Anteaters. Kristin Winkler led UCI with three aces and 19 digs.
Cal State Northridge is 12-5, 3-2.

Vanguard def. San Diego Christian
EL CAJON — Jessica Neves had 10 kills to help lead the Lions to a 25-19, 25-17, 25-15 Golden State Athletic Conference win Saturday.
Rachael Barker had eight kills, Carly Maxwell had 24 assists and Kelly Heenan had 17 digs for Vanguard (10-9, 2-3 in conference).
San Diego Christian is 4-8, 2-3.

SoCal Tournament
SANTA BARBARA — UC Irvine capitalized on a seven-goal outburst in the third quarter to defeat No. 4 California, 13-11, at Dos Pueblos High Saturday.
With the victory, UCI (12-1) will face top-ranked USC in a semifinal game Sunday at 10:40 a.m. at Dos Pueblos.
Bojan Hrlec led the Anteaters with four goals, Jacob Mourer had three, and Mitch Wise and Chris Swieca added two each.
Earlier Saturday, UCI scored the first six goals of the game in defeating UC Davis, 13-6.
Hrlec led the way with three goals while Nick Pfeil and Winston Newland added two each.

Vanguard 2, Hope International 1 (OT)
FULLERTON — Andrew Sullivan scored the game-winner in the 98th minute to give the Lions the Golden State Athletic Conference win Saturday.
Kyle O’Brien provided the assist. Joshua Banta scored a goal for Vanguard (4-5-1, 2-0 in conference).
Luca Licciardi had one save for the Lions.
Hope is 6-4, 0-2.

Sarah Warner, Kayla Arenas and Ashley McCutcheon scored a goal each for Vanguard (6-2, 2-0 in conference).
Amanda Couch had an assists for the Lions.
Vanguard Lauren Terry had one save in her shutout.
Hope is 5-4-1, 0-2.

William Tucker Invitational
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — UC Irvine sophomore Pete Fernandez placed fifth in the invitational that concluded Saturday.
Fernandez finished with a two-under-par total of 214 for 54 holes after shooting a final-round 75 at the UNM Championship Course.
Gavin Green of host New Mexico was medalist at seven-under 209 following a 69 Saturday.
UCI junior Travis Russell finished 29th at 224 after shooting 78 Saturday, senior Michael Yang (76) and freshman Jacob Schulze (77) tied for 46th place at 228, and senior Mickey Chan (76) placed 81st at 240.
The ‘Eaters finished eighth with a three-round total of 892. New Mexico won the 15-team tournament at 849, 29 shots ahead of runner-up Colorado (878). San Francisco was third at 886.
UCI returns to action Oct. 22-23 in the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.

Stanford Invitational
STANFORD — Senior Rex Nelson led UC Irvine to a solid showing at the 39th Stanford Invitational Saturday morning on the Stanford Golf Course.
Nelson placed 15th of 265 runners with a time of 24:43 over 8,000 meters. John Gilbertson of The Master’s College won the race in 24:07.
UCI senior Sam Hyams finished 26th in 25:04, Steven Melena was 42nd in 25:21 and Alex Tebbe was 45th in 25:24.
Nick Osborne toured the course in 26:08 for 95th place, Tommy Newton-Neal was 98th (26:09) and Riley Martin was 128th (26:27) to round out UCI’s top seven.
The ‘Eaters finished sixth in the 29-team field with 194 points. Stanford won the meet with 34 points, Adams State was second with 40 and Chico State third with 123.
At the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont Saturday, UCI’s Calvin Tan finished 89th with a time of 28:01.5 over 8,000 meters.
UCI competes in the UCSD Triton Classic at La Jolla Saturday.

Stanford Invitational
STANFORD — UC Irvine redshirt sophomore Colleen Lillig finished 39th of 292 runners to lead the Anteaters Saturday morning.
Lillig posted a time of 21:57 over 6,000 meters at the Stanford Golf Course. Kathy Kroeger of the Cardinal placed first in 20:13.
UCI senior Chloe Fata was 100th in 22:41, Marthie Ponty finished 146th in 23:11 and Carlotta Pham was 162nd in 23:21.
Completing the Anteaters’ top seven were Chelsea Schneider in 166th place (23:25), Kaycee Holcomb 172nd (23:29) and Courtney Wilson 201st (23:54).
UCI finished 21st with 539 points. Stanford won the meet with 25 points, Adams State was second with 136 and UC Santa Barbara third with 160.

Pomona-Pitzer Invitational
CLAREMONT — Camille Maron finished 20th of 137 runners to lead UC Irvine at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Saturday morning.
Maron covered the 6,000-meter course in 23:30.0. Kelly Thompson of Cal State San Marcos won the race in 21:39.5.
UCI’s Emma Archuleta placed 25th in 23:35.9, Katherine Kass was 28th in 23:37.9 and Jewelz Andrews was 35th in 23:51.1.
Nicole Kent finished 39th in 23:56.9, Melanie Driessen was 44th (24:01.9) and Maggie Newton-Neal 50th (24:18.6) to complete UCI’s top seven.
The Anteaters finished fifth with 143 points. Cal State San Marcos won the meet with 26 points, Cal Poly Pomona was second with 55 and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps third with 128.
