Estancia’s Murtha most likely good to go
Coach Mike Bargas breathed a sigh of relief on Friday. Robert Murtha won’t miss the rest of the Estancia High football season.
Bargas said Murtha would most likely be available for next week’s game after the senior tailback sprained his ankle in the Eagles’ 20-18 home loss to Irvine on Thursday.
Murtha rushed 17 times for 114 and one touchdown before leaving late in the third quarter against the Vaqueros (3-0).
If Murtha can give it a go for Estancia (2-1) next week against University, he has a chance to break the Newport-Mesa career rushing record of 4,333 yards. He is 40 yards away from surpassing Costa Mesa’s Binh Tran.
