High School Roundup: CdM improves to 3-0

NEWPORT BEACH — Lauren Thaxter swept in singles, 6-4, 6-0, 6-0 to help the Sea Kings improve to 3-0 in the nonleague match Friday at The Tennis Club Newport Beach.

Olivia Dajee won 6-2, 6-1 in singles before being subbed out for the third round.

Liana Korber of Sage Hill (0-3), who is the sister of former CdM standout player Shane Korber (now playing for Georgetown), won two sets.

In doubles, junior Kenzie Purcifull and sophomore Riley Gerdau swept for the second day in a row, winning 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Taylor Fogarty and junior Kimmia Naaseh earned their first sweep of the year, winning, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.

Sophomore Shelby Anderson and Senior Sofia Chen won 6-1, 6-1 before Anderson was subbed out.

CdM plays host to El Toro on Tuesday. Sage Hill will play host to Woodbridge on Wednesday.

NEWPORT COAST – Halland McKenna had 13 kills and three aces to help lead the Lightning to a 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 season-opening win Friday night.

Maggie Danner had 10 kills and eight digs and Kekai Whitford had five kills and seven digs for Sage Hill (1-0), which plays host to Fairmont Prep Wednesday.
