UCI athletes lauded
Big West Conference All-Academic laurels have been awarded to 27 UC Irvine student-athletes.
Recent graduates from the baseball team, D.J. Crumlich and Jordan Fox, are among those singeled out.
Adam Folker, who will return for his senior season in men’s basketball, is also on the list, as is baseball pitcher Jimmy Litchfield, who completed his sophomore year in 2011-12.
Stephen Brown, Alvin Cheng, Brennen Halliday, Ryan McMonigle and Trevor Smith represent the UCI men’s track and field team.
Women’s track and field honorees are Kelly Collins, Jamie Crow, Shelley Foerster, Lauren Freschauf, Kira Helmer, Martina Mickos, Kelsi Sando, Jennica Smith, Corina Ubario, KayC Wharton and Courtney Wilson.
Courtney Byron, Franziska Goettsching, Stephanie Hammel and Kristina Smith represent women’s tennis, while Hillary Estrada and Layne Kipp compete in women’s water polo.
Michelle Park represents the women’s golf program.
To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average, be at least a sophomore academically and compete in at least half of their team’s contests.
